SKIP HIRE FAQs & 
TERMS OF HIRE

1. Hire period

Our standard skip hire period is 14 days. You do not have to keep the skip for 14 days , this is the maximum we allow for them to be hired out for. 

If you need the skip for longer, please contact us before your hire period ends. Extensions may be arranged, subject to availability and prior agreement.

If you finish with your skip earlier, simply contact us to arrange collection.

2. Delivery and access

Please ensure there is enough space for our vehicle to deliver and collect your skip safely.

The delivery area must be accessible and suitable for a heavy goods vehicle. Please make us aware of any      access restrictions, including narrow entrances, overhead cables, low branches or uneven ground.

Our drivers have the right to refuse delivery or collection if they consider the conditions unsafe.

3. Skip placement and ground conditions

Skips must be placed on suitable ground with the landowner's permission.

Heavy vehicles and loaded skips can damage surfaces such as block paving, tarmac, driveways, drain covers and soft ground.

Please discuss any concerns about the proposed location with us before delivery. We will assess whether the skip can be placed safely.

Skips must not be moved or repositioned without our permission.

We are unable to place skips on the road or any other council property. 

4. Loading your skip

Skips must be loaded safely and must not be overfilled.

Waste must remain within the permitted loading level and weight limit. Nothing should protrude dangerously from the container.

Our drivers may refuse to collect an overloaded or unsafe skip until the issue has been resolved.

Please ensure the skip is accessible and ready for collection.

5. Accepted waste

Only the waste agreed with us at the time of booking may be placed in the skip.

Our 20-yard RoRo skips can accommodate suitable heavy waste, including soil, rubble and concrete, subject to agreed weight and loading limits.

Our 40-yard RoRo skips are intended for lighter, bulkier waste. Heavy materials such as soil, rubble and concrete must not be placed in these containers.

If you are unsure whether a material is suitable, please contact us before loading it.

6. Prohibited waste

The following materials must not be placed in a general waste RoRo skip unless we have expressly agreed suitable arrangements:

• Asbestos or other hazardous waste.
• Chemicals, oils, paints and liquids.
• Gas cylinders and pressurised containers.
• Batteries and electrical equipment requiring separate disposal.
• Tyres and other materials requiring specialist disposal.
• POPs waste (Upholstered furntiure of any kind) 

This list is not exhaustive. Please contact us if you are unsure about any waste.

Asbestos must never be placed in a general waste skip.

7. Enclosed asbestos skip hire

Our enclosed asbestos skips are provided specifically for asbestos waste that we have agreed to accept.

Only the agreed asbestos waste may be loaded. General waste and other materials must not be mixed with asbestos unless it is contaminated with asbestos.

Asbestos waste must be appropriately contained and packaged in accordance with the agreed requirements.

The skip must be kept secure to prevent unauthorised access or disposal.

Please contact us before loading if you are unsure about the material or its packaging requirements.

8. Looking after the skip

All skips remain the property of Smart Environmental throughout the hire period.

Please take reasonable care of the container and do not move, alter or damage it.

Fires must not be lit inside the skip.

Please notify us if the skip becomes damaged or if anything occurs that may affect its safe collection.

9. Collection and exchanges

Please contact us when your skip is ready for collection, unless a collection date has already been agreed.

Collections and skip exchanges are subject to vehicle availability and scheduling.

The skip must be safely loaded and accessible when our driver arrives.

If collection cannot be completed safely, we will explain the issue and arrange a further collection once it has been resolved.

10. Prices and additional charges

Your hire price will be confirmed when you book.

The quotation is based on the agreed waste type, delivery location and service requirements.

If the waste differs from what was agreed, or additional services are required, we will explain any applicable additional charges.

Payment arrangements will be confirmed at the time of booking.

11. Waste documentation

We provide the appropriate documentation for the waste collected.

General waste collections are covered by the applicable waste transfer documentation.

Hazardous asbestos waste requires hazardous waste consignment documentation.

Customers must provide accurate information about the waste being collected.
